Combining clinical knowledge with writing expertise
I started my career as a healthcare professional, treating patients in hospital and community settings. After moving to a country with a brand-new language, I side-stepped into medical writing. Still, I apply my clinical experience to my writing and project work every day. I love helping patients, and now I get to help my clients. Rather than working with patients one-on-one, my work impacts many people—that's a really great feeling!

UQ is in the top 50 universities worldwide. Here I gained a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy (2003). This 4-year degree had a strong academic and research science focus, admitting only the top 2% of school leavers. I studied alongside students of medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy and speech pathology.

When explaining medical matters in everyday language I write with empathy, as if the reader is my own patient. When writing on behalf of clinicians and researchers, I am honoured to help them effectively communicate their science and knowledge.

I have lived in 5 countries across 2 continents. I've enjoyed learning the local languages (German, French, and Dutch). Observing how medical English is used between native and non-native speakers, professionals and laypeople, has been a fascinating and unexpected dimension of my work. When I am editing your writing, my knowledge of these other languages helps me to understand and recognise what you really want to say.
